Founder Story

Welcome to the world of Slowe.

I'm Melanie, the founder and everything else behind this independent experimental fashion studio.

I started Slowe in early 2025 with a mission to create unique one-of-a-kind pieces made from pre-existing materials. 

To me, fashion is a silent language of self expression, a way of showing up in this world and being seen for who you are. Growing up I struggled a lot with self confidence. I listened to what people told me I should be, following a path of chasing dreams that weren't really mine. 

When I got dressed I liked to feel different and stand out from others. I felt confident when I wore something unique that no one else had. 

In 2020, after a life crisis, I decided to study Fashion Design at TAFE. At the time I never fully understood the impact of the fashion industry. The pollution it caused, the amount of waste sent to landfill, the people working in horrible conditions and how people were dying at the cost of fashion. After learning the real impact of the industry I didn't want to have anything to do with it. Until I realised that fashion will always exist whether I'm in it or not.

So I need to become a part of the solution. I need to be a part of change. 

So here I am. Showing up in the world. Bringing my vision to life.
